About Us

We Believe
KCFS believes in the resiliency of children and families. We seek to provide an environment that promotes healing. We believe in the potential of the individual, and in the strength of relationships. The community is a vital partner in all aspects of our operations. We believe in transparency and accountability, and strive to maintain the highest degrees of professional competency, cultural sensitivity, and human compassion.

The Founders
The founder and CEO of KCFS, Lee Van Orden, possesses unique insight into the lives of the children served, and is a visionary who has the ability to inspire others by asking "What about THAT one?". The co-founders, Beth Farley and Dianne Brown, have been an integral part of the organization since its inception and share Lee's passion to offer children hope, healing and happiness.

Why the Name?
A kaleidoscope often has many colorful, beautiful, broken pieces of glass. The glass represents the multi-cultural children who are placed in a safe and supportive environment, Kaleidoscope CFS, to be encouraged as the twists and turns of life come along.

In the Beginning
Kaleidoscope Child & Family Services, Inc. started as Camp Kaleidoscope in 2002, serving foster and at-risk youth by providing summer day camp.

Our current project, The Homeplace, an emergency shelter and diagnostic center, serves children as they enter or exit the foster care system by providing a home-like environment for short-term residential stays. Appropriate community resources are utilized while a comprehensive assessment of each child and his or her family is compiled so that services can be wrapped around the family in a meaningful and effective way.
